# Privacy Policy for LinkedIn AI Reply Composer
**Last Updated:** May 26, 2025
Thank you for using LinkedIn AI Reply Composer (the "Extension"). This Privacy Policy describes how your information is collected, used, and shared when you install and use the Extension.
## 1. Information We Collect
The Extension is designed to minimize data collection. We collect the following types of information:
* **User-Provided Information:**
* **Gemini API Key:** To enable the core functionality of generating AI-powered replies, the Extension requires you to provide your own Gemini API key. This key is stored locally on your device using the browser's `chrome.storage` API. We do not have access to this key.
* **Information from LinkedIn (Processed for Functionality):**
* **Contextual Data from LinkedIn Pages:** When you activate the Extension on a LinkedIn page to compose a reply, the Extension will access the text content of the specific post or comment you intend to reply to. This contextual data is necessary to generate a relevant AI reply. This data is sent to the Gemini API along with your API key but is **not** stored by the Extension itself.
## 2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely for the following purposes:
* **To Provide and Maintain the Extension's Functionality:**
* Your Gemini API key is used to authenticate requests to the Gemini service.
* The contextual data from LinkedIn pages is sent to the Gemini API to generate relevant replies.
* **To Store Your API Key Locally:** Your Gemini API key is stored locally in your browser's storage so you do not have to re-enter it each time you use the Extension.
**We do not use your information for any other purpose, such as advertising or tracking.**
## 3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
* **With the Gemini API Service (Google):** To generate AI replies, the Extension sends your Gemini API key and the contextual data (the LinkedIn post/comment content you are replying to) to Google's Gemini API. Your interactions with the Gemini API are subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. The Extension only transmits the necessary information to fulfill your request for an AI-generated reply.
* **For Legal Reasons:** We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend our rights or property, prevent fraud, act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Extension, or protect against legal liability.
## 4. Data Storage and Security
* **Gemini API Key:** Your Gemini API key is stored locally on your computer using the `chrome.storage` API provided by your web browser. We (the developers of the Extension) do not have access to this key. You can clear this storage by uninstalling the Extension or, if applicable, through the Extension's settings.
* **LinkedIn Contextual Data:** The contextual data from LinkedIn pages used to generate replies is processed in real-time and is **not** stored or logged by the Extension itself after the reply has been generated and provided to you.
We take reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, but no security system is impenetrable.
## 5. Your Choices
* **API Key:** You provide your API key voluntarily. You can choose not to provide it, but the core functionality of the Extension will not be available. You can typically clear your locally stored API key by managing the Extension's storage through your browser settings or by uninstalling the Extension.
* **Uninstalling the Extension:** You can uninstall the Extension at any time through your browser's extension management page. Uninstalling the Extension will remove any locally stored data, including your API key.
## 6. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 (or a higher age threshold depending on the jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.
## 7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, in some cases, we may provide additional notice (such as adding a statement to our website or providing you with an in-Extension notification). We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our information practices.
